Welcome to the Global Strategy Journal (GSJ)! Being the leading journal in global strategy, GSJ publishes impactful articles that shape research conversations. As a young, specialized journal with four issues per year, we focus on quality. Our editorial strategy is to work with the authors and reviewers to create and curate highly impactful articles that shape the field. In 2019, GSJ had a record number of submissions and a large increase in the impact factor, trends that continue as the journal celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2020.
Although a relatively young journal, GSJ has developed a strong reputation in the strategic management and international business communities. The journal was inducted into Clarivate Web of Science Social Sciences Citation Index in 2015, and its standing in the research community has since been documented by consistently high journal impact factors (JIF). The 2019 JIF metrics show that GSJ continues its upward trend. It achieved strong increases in the 2-year and the 5-year JIF to 4.065 and 4.629, respectively. The journal is listed in the management category, where it moved impressively to 52nd place in 2019 from 82nd place in 2018.
Our editorial team has continued its renewal. Gabriel R.G. Benito (BI Norwegian Business School) joined the co-editor group alongside Alvaro Cuervo-Cazurra (Northeastern University) and Ram Mudambi (Temple University) after founding co-editor Torben Pedersen (Bocconi University) stepped down at the end of 2019. In the associate editor team, Marcus Møller Larsen (Copenhagen Business School) and Paul Vaaler (University of Minnesota) joined as new associate editors alongside Dan Li (Indiana University), Shige Makino (Chinese University of Hong Kong), Anupama Phene (George Washington University), and Lucia Piscitello (Politecnico di Milano), as Jay Anand (Ohio State University) stepped down.
We design the journal’s issues for maximum readability and impact. To achieve this, we assemble regular issues with articles that share topical similarities. We also organize special issues—which have their own designated call for papers and submission handling process— that open new research conversations. A very popular special issue on Microfoundations of Global Strategy (Vol. 9, issue 1) was guest edited by Farok Contractor, Nicolai J. Foss, Sumit Kundu, and Somnath Lahiri and published in 2019. Two special issues have been published in 2020: one on Skepticism of Globalization and Global Strategy (Vol. 10, issue 1) guest edited by Alvaro Cuervo-Cazurra, Yves Doz, and Ajai Gaur, and another on Global Strategy and Global Value Chains (Vol. 10, issue 3) guest edited by Gary Gereffi, Pavida Pananond, and Torben Pedersen. We have two forthcoming special issues for 2021, one on Global Strategy and the Digital Economy and another on Institutions and Entrepreneurship. Further, a call is currently open for submissions to a special issue on Complexity and Multinationals that will likely publish in 2022.
