Elena Novelli

Elena Novelli is Professor of strategy at the Business School (formerly Cass) of City, University of London. Her research focuses on general and abstract knowledge and its role in affecting performance and decision making. She has explored this question with conceptual as well as empirical research (observational studies, and natural and field experiments). Her work has been published in academic journals including the Academy of Management Review, the Academy of Management Annals, Organization Science and Research Policy, and has been recognized by awards and grants including the 2015 Strategic Management Society Best Paper IG Knowledge and Innovation award, the 2013 SIIE.EBS/Mikroforum Innovation Management Best-Paper-Award, UK Economic and Social Research Council Future Research Leaders grant (£212,000), and the UK BEIS Business Basics Grant (£387,000). She holds a Ph.D. in Management from Bocconi University. Her Ph.D. dissertation was selected as a Finalist for the Academy of Management BPS Best Dissertation Award and for the DRUID dissertation award. She is a member of the Editorial Review Board of the Strategic Management Journal, Strategy Science, Organization Science, and the Journal of Management Studies. She has served as the Representative at Large of the Knowledge and Innovation IG of the Strategic Management Society before being elected for the Chair Track in 2017. At City, she teaches Business, Corporate, and Innovation Strategy in the Executive MBA and Executive Programmes. Her successful teaching activity has been recognized with multiple awards.
